ABOUT
The Twin Cities Model Aero Club has served those interested in
Aero Modeling in the Albury Wodonga area for over thirty years. Members
of the club construct and fly all types of model aircraft.
Our organization caters for a complete cross section of the
community, the common interest being flying model
aircraft. Members come from all walks of life, from
professionals, shift workers, pensioners, retirees and
students. Such is the interest in aero modeling that we count
several pilots and aircraft engineers among our members. Many
aero modelers, particularly those building and flying radio controlled
model aircraft, have progressed to a career either in the military or
airlines, either as pilots or engineers.
Flying takes place at the club’s own flying field a few
kilometres north of Albury, this facility is available seven days a
week, although most activity takes place on
weekends, particularly on Sundays. The flying field, in
addition to its runway also has a club house, toilets and shade
shelter. An area where smaller electric models and free flight
models can be flown is also provided. A new
addition to the site is a world class facility for flying control line
models comprising an 80 metre concrete circle.
This mini airfield has been developed over recent years by club
members with assistance from the Model Aeronautical Association
of Australia, the Victorian Model Aircraft
Association and Albury Council.
The Club has an established training policy in place, with qualified
instructors to assist student pilots through all
aspects of radio controlled flying up to their solo stage and
beyond. In addition to this flying training, help and advice is
always available from experienced members to assist new starters in
both the selection of equipment and aircraft
construction.
Younger members can gain valuable experience from
building and flying model aircraft; the acquired skills and knowledge
can greatly enhance their career prospects,
particularly in the aircraft industry.
The Club is affiliated with the Victorian Model Aircraft
Association (VMAA) and the Model Aeronautical Association of
Australia (MAAA) and operates under air navigation rules as required
by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
It is strongly recommended that prospective members talk to current
club members, and enquire about the club’s training program, before
any radio equipment, engine or model is purchased. A little advice
taken before starting could save frustration and unnecessary expense,
while ensuring rapid progress in flying skill.
Further information on Club activities and contacts can be obtained by
checking the Club’s web site.
www.tcmac.com.au or by coming out to the flying field and talking to
members, visitors are always welcome.
